Product / SKU and part number search
Search by SKU, part number or barcode
Part number search lets a buyer find a product by typing all or part of its SKU, manufacturer part number or UPC. Shopsense matches partial codes, ignores separators and tolerates typos, so "12357abc" finds "SKU:123-57-ABC". Codes come straight from the ERP, so there is no second product list to maintain.

Why distributor buyers search by code
Repeat buyers do not browse. They reorder from an invoice, a shelf label or a supplier's catalog, and they type what is printed there. In B2B catalogs a large share of searches contain a code rather than a word. If the search box cannot resolve a partial or mistyped code, the buyer phones in the order or goes to a competitor's portal. Code search is the highest-volume, highest-intent query type on a distributor storefront.
Partial and unformatted SKU matching
Shopsense indexes every code as a sequence of segments and matches prefixes, suffixes and mid-string fragments. Dashes, dots, slashes, spaces and letter case are ignored. The following queries all return SKU 123-57-ABC:
| Buyer types | Why it matches |
|---|---|
| 123-57-ABC | Exact |
| 12357abc | Separators and case ignored |
| 57-AB | Mid-string fragment |
| 123-57 | Prefix, returns every 123-57-* variant |
| ABC | Suffix, ranked below closer matches |
Barcode and UPC lookup
A handheld scanner types a barcode into the search field like a keyboard. Shopsense resolves UPC and EAN to the product and shows the price for the signed-in account. Buyers in a stockroom can scan a shelf and reorder without knowing the product name. Case and inner-pack barcodes are included when those fields are mapped from the ERP.
Typo tolerance for codes
Typo tolerance for codes must be tighter than for words. One wrong character in a word is usually harmless. One wrong digit in a part number is a different product. Shopsense treats transposed digits and single-character substitutions as near matches, ranks them below exact hits, and labels them "Did you mean" so a buyer never orders the wrong item by accident.
Manufacturer part numbers and aliases
The buyer may know the manufacturer's code or your internal SKU. Shopsense indexes every alias field mapped from the ERP, so any mapped code finds the product. Competitor cross-references and superseded-code notes are included only when those fields exist in the ERP and are mapped. They are not claimed here as a separate list Shopsense maintains.
